Who is Malala Yousafzai? is an easy-to-read-together biography published by Penguin Books. The book, geared to children, is ability-appropriate for my students. After reading a section of the book, we expand our knowledge by follow-up discussions.
We had read Who is Anne Frank? in class earlier, and that is how I discovered they were interested in history. Since Anne Frank was a teenage writer, I decided to introduce Malala to them next. Malala is an intriguing person who is creating history in our time.
When my women returned to class the day after we started the book, they told me what they had learned about Malala via their electronic devices while they were at home. In the meantime, I had put up a bulletin board display of quotations from Malala’s speeches.
It was a joy to see the faces of the women change, as they comprehended the meaning of the quotations. Malala is known worldwide, and now she is known in Caroline House.
